Last Sept. 2010, Charles Phillips Oracle then- president declared that he was leaving his job of seven years as co-president of the 3^rd biggest software maker in the world. In those years, he worked alongside Safra Catz. Shortly after, Lawrence Ellison, the company’s CEO, announced that Mark Hurd from Hewlett Packard would replace Phillips. It’s not a secret that Ellison and Hurd go a long way back and thus it’s not a surprise that Ellison didn’t have any second thoughts in hiring Hurd to take over when the position of co-president in his company became vacant.

Even before Hurd was formally invited to work for his company, Ellison had already made his position clear about the controversy surrounding Hurd’s removal as CEO of HP, describing the actions performed by Hewlett-Packard’s board as “cowardly”. The latter company had set the IT world in an uproar when it initiated an investigation to uncover the truth behind the supposedly inaccurate expense reports which the former CEO filed for his marketing contractor Jodie Fisher, who was with HP from 2007 until 2009. It was believed that the expense reports were modified for Fisher’s benefit, who was also allegedly having a “personal” relationship with Hurd.

Hopefully, things would be better for Hurd now that he has the clear and full backing of his new boss, Oracle CEO Ellison. In the end, it would ultimately be interesting to see Charles Phillips Oracle former president, go head to head against Ellison now that Phillips is the new CEO of mid-level enterprise application vendor Infor.
